My favorite 3 tools of this summer!
Blocketto, Rosemary & Co. brushes and “the thing”. For violin makers and musicians!
I’m excited to share my three favorite tools of this summer in this newsletter.
We start with the Blocketto, to avoid falling bridges during strings work! Super useful to violin makers when installing strings on the instrument, but even more to musicians! especially when you use those historical strings with round metal wire, which are not sliding on the bridge, so they risk not only moving it but also making it fall down, which could easily cause the breaking of the top!
You can order yours at this link.
Second, I don't know how to call it, I always called it il coso 🫣 (the thing). But I know I never attempt tuning without it. It's my best friend for tuning!
You cannot buy it, but it’s easy to make it!
Finally, my favorite brushes: Rosemary & Co. For violin varnishing or watercolour sketching, I like them because they are ethical, they never lose hair, they come from a family-run company where they are very kind and attentive, and they come for a reasonably good price despite the customs!
Check them out at this link: the Red Dot Collection is what I am talking about. But if you are into street sketching or open air painting, they have some cool travel brushes too!
-update- check in the comments my feedback after using them!
…and yes, I bought the pro version of Inshot app and I indulged with sound effects! 🫣😅
Next week we’re going on holiday so you will not get a regular newsletter on the 10th of September. Stay tuned for our Notes and short updates that you might get from the Substack app!
I forgot to add my feedback after using the brushes!!
the domed one are better as retouch brushes, while I prefer the flat for sure for a complete coat. However, probably not the long flat, as you risk to press it on the top to get more varnish out of the length, but what comes out may be just spirit (and ruin your coat), or simply you are using too much pressure. Short flats should be perfect, and I will buy me a set of those next time!
Instead, I really love the flat big ones, the beaver tales! Those are simply perfect and work like natural martor ones!
Thank you for the brush tip! It's hard to find quality brushes without having to take out a loan! Just bought six for less than a $100
