I thought it could be helpful to demonstrate something about how to hold a Violoncello da Spalla and its playing position. There is not only one way, and for sure, the same was three hundred years ago. Violoncello da Spalla is a world of freedom and experimentation, so feel free to try different ways and experiment. Good video. I will try the strap under the left arm. I find that pushing the neck away from the body provides some stability for the instrument so that finding the string level (for the bow) is more reliable. I agree with you about finding support for shifting using the right shoulder and chin. One reason I like the strap over the left arm is that it provides some “support” for the downshift.
