I hope you are doing great and enjoying some relaxation before starting a new year of commitments. We are! We are now in Chicago for a flute convention where Alessandro was invited to play with the best piccolists in the world. I’m writing to you from the airport, waiting for the flight back.
Before leaving home, I closed the body of the new Violoncello da Spalla.
When we arrived at our hotel in Chicago, we found presents and packages waiting for us, which was fun and felt welcoming! Here are gifts that stayed behind when I participated in the Celebrating Women Luthiers last spring, and unique “plant Pernambuco seeds” stickers that I will give to all my bow rehairs customers, and 1€ will go to plant a Pernambuco tree.
We enjoyed a few walks around town, we had exceptionally good and bright weather, and we loved the atmosphere here: it’s not too crowded and hectic, the buildings are elegant, and it’s colourful. Food could be better, but we adapt!
We did some shopping at the flute convention exhibition: baroque and renaissance flutes!
Alessandro shared the stage with the best piccolists in the world! We had such a great time, we didn’t meet many of them for years, and we made many new friends!
On the day of the return flight, we had the time to visit the art institute!
Cezanne, Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet
We had a much-needed time off, and we loved being there so much, even for so short! We’ll remember this week with amazement and gratitude!

Check the music of Giuseppe Clemente dall’Abaco. I think we could find there beautiful music to play with Violoncello da Spalla! Thanks to Elinor Frey for finding, editing and publishing these gems!
